Watercolor demonstration painting for WASH in Carmichael on Monday, May 12th.

Student Question:

In your presentation last night at SFAC you discussed transparent and sediment colors. Watercolor is usually referred to as transparent and opaque. Were you referring to opaque when you mentioned sediment colors or is that something else? Some colors are granulated also. Sorry I didn't ask last night.

My Answer:

Thank you for your good question.

In  transparent watercolor, stain colors are very transparent.  Opaque colors are the sediment colors and when wet appear very opaque, but they dry transparent.  I do not refer to the sediment colors as opaque because that can be confused with Guach.  Guach are referred to as opaque watercolor and used by commercial illustrators.
